Haunting: Spring Valley, NY
SENT IN BY: Dave
LOCATION: Spring Valley, New York, USA
DATE OF INCIDENT: Summer 1987.
The house I used to live in during my teens used to be a WWI veterans hospital. Needless to say, I had many freaky dreams there. One involved a parade of dead soldiers marching past my bed!
Anyway, I had never seen anything real until one summer night. I had just come home around 1 a.m. from an evening of hanging out with the guys. I was completely mentally sharp - not tired at all. I wanted to watch some television. I settled down in the big Lazy Boy recliner and dimmed the overhead light. As I watched TV, I suddenly had the sensation of movement over my head. I couldn't see the ceiling, for the house had high ceilings. I got up and turned on the light. The only original piece from when the house was built was the chandelier in what I guess would have been the waiting area. This chandelier was swinging back and forth. There was no breeze, and the chandelier was completely out of reach. I went back to the recliner and shut off the TV. I sat there and looked at it swing for about 20 minutes. Then, it just stopped dead. It didn't swing to a stop, it just stopped. I slowly got up and went upstairs to go to bed.
Since then, I have moved into a house that was the old Singer sewing machine house. The guy who invented the Singer sewing machine used to live there. It was built in 1706. I do not get the same vibe there as I did with the house I used to live in, but I did see a ghost there once. About a year ago, I came downstairs to get something to drink from the fridge. It was around midnight. I turned on the kitchen light and immediately saw someone rush from the hallway adjacent to the kitchen into a doorway to another room. Thinking we were being robbed, I immediately woke up the dog who was sleeping on the couch and dragged him over to the dark doorway. He struggled against going in there for about a minute, then he just walked right in. I followed him in and turned on the light, but no one was there.
Since then, nothing else has happened. In both houses, I have had several horrific nightmares. Both houses are still in the family.
